2011, an exceptional year, finally...

Several Belgian pilots reached the podium in non-FAI World or European classifications !

During the year 2011, our participation in the regular FAI championships was rather limited. Indeed, the only complete Belgian teams to take part to an FAI championship were in Hand Launch Gliders, category F3K and Helicopters F3C. The F3K championship was the first edition of such a championship. Our team ( Yves De Vriendt, Olivier Leroy and Peter Cuypers) reached a modest 18th position in the teams classification. In F3C, all our pilots (Wolfgang Wiesner, Guy Vanderschelden and Jos Kenens) ended up in the last third of the classification. In F3A, only one Belgian (Bert Delaere) took part in the championship in the USA and could not perform very well. The best individual Belgian at FAI level was in F2B (Luc Dessaucy), but he was our only representative and ended up 12th.

On the other hand, several categories of aeromodeling are developing outside of the FAI, and many Belgian pilots are keen to participate, and even perform at the highest level !

IMG_0070.jpgIndeed, our former FAI world champion in F4C, Philip Avonds, reached the top place in the category 13.5 kg at the World Jet Masters held in the USA this summer. On the F3M scene, an European classification is based on the results of several large European meetings and here, Brice Jacquemin ended up at place 1, followed by Sam Pets in second position. In Pylon Racing category Quickie500, a similar European classification brought two Belgian pilots, Kevin Daniels and Patrick Verjans, in slots 1 and 2 of the final classification.
